In late 2022, the ACCC conducted an internet sweep which examined online reviews and testimonials. The purpose of this sweep was to determine the nature and extent of review practices which raise concerns under the Australian Consumer Law, and to inform future ACCC compliance and enforcement activities.

This sweep report outlines the results of the sweep, and highlights areas of concern that the ACCC has identified. Businesses are encouraged to review the findings of the report and consider any changes to their practices to ensure that consumers are not misled by online reviews or testimonials.

The ACCC plans to release a targeted document for businesses in relation to online reviews in early 2024.
