Summary: Bought something that doesn’t do what it should? Don't lose your head, use your consumer rights.

Transcript

When you buy goods and services under the Australian Consumer Law, on or offline, they automatically come with certain consumer guarantees.

By law business must provide these guarantees regardless of any other warranties they’ve given or sold you, and they often last longer too.

To put it simply, you can’t be sold something that doesn’t do the job it’s supposed to, is faulty, unsafe breaks too easily or just isn’t up to scratch.

Of course you can’t make unreasonable demands but if a product or service fails to meet your consumer guarantees you can ask for a repair, replacement or refund.

If you do have a problem, talk to the business and tell them how you’d like the problem fixed.

It’s likely they will ask to see some proof of purchase, so keep your receipts.

The retailer who sold you the product cannot refuse to help by sending you to the manufacturer.

Because, at the end of the day, you deserve to get what you paid for.

Really? REALLY?

Make sure you get what you paid for.
