The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has released an issues paper seeking public comment on a pricing proposal by Airservices Australia, ACCC Chairman, Professor Allan Fels, said today.

Airservices Australia is seeking a temporary increase in prices for terminal navigation and aviation rescue and fire fighting services. These charges vary from airport to airport.

The proposal entails a 6.95 per cent increase in these charges, to apply from 1 July 2003 across a number of major airports(1). No increases are proposed to charges for en route air navigation services.

The ACCC is seeking submissions by 28 April 2003. Airservices Australia is the only provider of air navigation services in Australia and is 'declared' under the Prices Surveillance Act 1983. With its monopoly position, Airservices Australia must notify the ACCC of proposed price increases.
