Baby Dynamics Pty Ltd will correctly label the Baby Dynamics 3 in 1 Walker following an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission investigation.

The ACCC has accepted court-enforceable undertakings from Baby Dynamics, which imported and distributed about 280 baby walkers to retailers throughout NSW and the ACT for supply to consumers under the description '3 in 1 Walker'.  The 3 in 1 Walker did not comply with the Trade Practices (Consumer Product Safety Standard) (Baby Walkers) Regulations 2002, as no warning labels were fixed to the product.

"The standard requires baby walkers to be labelled with warning instructions and meet certain performance standards", ACCC Chairman, Mr Graeme Samuel, said today. "These warning labels warn of risks associated with using the product, such as burning, injury or death.

"The labels are potentially life-saving information for parents and guardians.  It alerts them to risks associated with use of the baby walker and, each time they use the product, reminds them that babies are vulnerable and need constant supervision".

The non-compliant baby walker was discovered by ACCC staff during a national product safety survey.

"The ACCC actively enforces safety standards and bans with manufacturers, importers and retailers by undertaking frequent random market surveys and acting promptly against offending suppliers".

Baby Dynamics will:

  • cease distribution and supply to retailers of all 3 in 1 Walkers that do not comply with the Standard
  • contact all retailers to which it supplied 3 in 1 Walkers and request them to immediately remove the 3 in 1 Walkers from sale, pending the affixing of appropriate labelling
  • offer to correctly label any non-compliant 3 in 1 Walkers purchased prior to their removal from sale
  • arrange for an article alerting consumers to the existence and importance of safety standards for baby products to appear in a nationwide parenting magazine
  • cause all directors and sales representatives of Baby Dynamics to receive practical trade practices compliance training
  • maintain up-to-date copies of all prescribed consumer product safety standards and prescribed consumer information standards under the Trade Practices Act that relate to products that Baby Dynamics supplies.
