The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will not intervene in the acquisition of Cannons Food Barns by Woolworths Limited, Acting Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Chairman, Mr Allan Asher, announced today.
Cannons operates supermarkets in the ACT and southern NSW and controls the wholesaler, AIW.
"The ACCC considered the results of its own market inquiries, submissions from Woolworths and Cannons, as well as many other interested parties in reaching its decision not to intervene," Mr Asher said.
Woolworths Limited has offered assurances it will maintain existing supply arrangements to AIW customers after its acquisition of Cannons.
