Description of Conduct

Application for authorisation A90974 has been lodged by the Tasmanian Forest Contractors Association (the TFCA) to allow it to collectively bargain with various wood companies on behalf of its members. The TFCA's members include forest contractors that provide harvesting, transportation or silviculture services to the wood companies operating in Tasmania. The TFCA has also sought authorisation (A90973) to allow its members to engage in a collective boycott of the wood companies under certain circumstances. Copies of the TFCA's application and supporting submission are provided below.

A determination denying athorisation was issued by the ACCC on 24 February 2006. The ACCC considered that the potential public benefits of the proposed arrangments were likely to be insufficient to outweigh the potential anti-competitive detrmiments. A copy of the final determination is provided below.
