Summary

CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) have entered into a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). In summary, the MRA provides a mechanism under which CPA Australia and the ICAI will recognise the qualification and training provided by the other, and admit each others' members in good standing (subject to passing specified exams or bridging papers).

CPA Australia have lodged a notification seeking immunity for potential third line forcing conduct contained within the MRA. Under the MRA, CPA Australia proposes to admit as a Certified Practising Accountant any individual on condition that the individual:

-is a member of the ICAI who is either

o the holder of a CPA Australia recognised university degree or

ohas at least five years work experience and

-has successfully completed the relevant ICAI requirements and has successfully passed one paper on Business Strategy and Leadership (part of the CPA program) and completed a Continued Professional Development course and assessment relating to corporate governance and accountability.
