Summary

CMPMedica Australia Pty Ltd's proposed acquisition of the Australian Prescription Products Guide.

Market definition

The proposed acquisition was considered in the context of the national market for the publication and supply of drug information publications, within which exists a segment for publications including Product Information (PI) and Consumer Medicines Information (CMI).

Competition analysis

On 10 October 2007 the ACCC formed the view that the proposed acquisition was unlikely to result in a substantial lessening in competition in the relevant market. Factors informing this decision include:
- other drug information publications containing generic drug monographs (in particular AusDI) would be close, but not perfect, substitutes to the products of the merged firm; and
- there are existing suppliers of drug information publications in Australia that would have the ability to expand their current product offering to include PI and CMI (with equivalent functionality to the MIMS and the Australian Prescription Products Guide products) for a relatively low cost and time investment.
