Target(s)

  • Olex Holdings Pty Ltd

Summary

Nexans Participations S.A (Nexans) is a French company which designs, manufactures, installs and maintains cables and cabling systems for the infrastructure, industrial and construction industries. The target, Olex Holdings Pty Limited (Olex), is an Australian company involved in the manufacture and distribution of power cable products.

Market definition

The proposed acquisition was considered in the context of:
1) the market for the manufacture and supply of general power cables in Australia; and
2) the market for the manufacture and supply of utilities cables in Australia.

Competition analysis

In relation to the national market for utilities cables, Nexans only has a relatively small market share at present. In addition, there are a range of other suppliers in the market, and there is a moderate level of imports (over 10 per cent), both of which are likely to act as a strong competitive constraint.

In relation to the national market for general power cables, there is minimal competitive overlap between Nexans and Olex.

After consideration of the information provided by market participants and other information before it, the ACCC formed the view that the proposed acquisition is unlikely to result in a substantial lessening of competition in either market, and decided that it would not oppose the proposed acquisition.
