Sharp Corporation of Australia Pty Ltd - s.87B undertaking

Sharp Australia Pty Ltd ('Sharp') has acknowledged in an undertaking given to the Commission that they may have made misrepresentations to consumers by overstating the oven capacity (expressed in litres) of some models of their microwave ovens.

Sharp has provided a court enforceable undertaking to:

• Cease making the misrepresentations as to oven capacity;
• Conduct a comprehensive retail attendance program to ensure existing stock is relabelled;
• Publish a corrective notice in newspapers and on it's website which includes offering affected consumers a number of remedies;
• Funding a consumer awareness campaign;
• Implementing a compliance program and;
• Instituting a complaints handling system.
