The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today approved an increase in aircraft landing charges to fund terminal redevelopment works at Canberra Airport.

"These works form part of a $9 million package of projects that facilitate the operations of new airline entrants. The projects will also improve quality of service and make better use of available terminal capacity", the ACCC Commissioner responsible for airports, Mr John Martin said today.

"Canberra Airport approached the ACCC seeking approval to increase aeronautical charges outside the price cap to fund these works. The projects include the construction of a main entrance to the terminal, an external canopy and other minor works.

"However the ACCC did not approve a charge to recover the cost of a covered walkway through the car parks. The ACCC decided this part of the project should be funded from the revenue Canberra Airport derives from the car park."
