The ACCC completed a review of the indicators the ACCC uses in monitoring and evaluating the quality of services and facilities at Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney airports.

The ACCC monitors airport quality to promote transparency about services provided by airports for which there is little or no competition. Our monitoring provides information on how airport quality is changing over time and enables us to make general observations on whether monitored airports are taking advantage of lack of competition.

In response to a recommendation from the Productivity Commission’s 2019 report on the economic regulation of airports, the Australian Government has asked the ACCC to review the indicators, to:

  • more closely reflect the expectations of passengers, airlines and other airport users, and
  • have a greater focus on outcomes.
