This report provides an update on key competition and consumer developments and trends in private health insurance between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021.

The report focuses on actions taken by insurers to fulfil public commitments to return profits gained from COVID-19 restrictions to policyholders, while also providing an update on ACCC enforcement action and other developments relating to the health sector.

It is the 23rd report prepared by the ACCC in compliance with an order agreed to by the Australian Senate, requiring the ACCC to provide a report on: '… any anti-competitive practices by health insurers or providers, which reduce the extent of health cover for consumers and increase their out-of-pocket medical and other expenses.'
