The report focuses on the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the private health insurance sector, and insurers’ initiatives to return profits arising from COVID-19 restrictions to policyholders.

It is the 24th report prepared by the ACCC in compliance with an order agreed to by the Australian Senate, requiring the ACCC to provide a report on: '… any anti-competitive practices by health insurers or providers, which reduce the extent of health cover for consumers and increase their out-of-pocket medical and other expenses.'
