In December 2008 the ACCC commenced a public inquiry under subsection 152AL of the Trade Practices Act 1974 (the Act) (now the Competition and Consumer Act 2010) to review the declaration of the mobile terminating access service (MTAS). The MTAS had been declared as part of the Mobile Services Review in July 2004. This declaration was due to expire in 30 June 2009.
On 28 May 2009 the ACCC concluded its review of the MTAS declaration, releasing its final report. In the final report the ACCC decided to extend the declaration of the MTAS for five years.
